Terms of service

What this service is

Ema Local introduces people who need work doing to local businesses who do it. Where a business uses our booking calendar, we also handle the appointment.

We are an introduction service, not the supplier of the work. The contract for the job is between you and the business. They set the price, do the work, and carry the guarantees, insurance and qualifications for it.

For customers

Using Ema Local is free. You don't need an account.

We check that the businesses we list are who they say they are, but we do not supervise their work and we cannot guarantee it. Satisfy yourself about qualifications, insurance and price before you agree to anything — for regulated trades such as gas or electrical work, ask to see the registration.

A booking is confirmed only when we say it is. If we're still waiting to hear from a business, we'll tell you that rather than imply you have a slot.

For businesses

Your listing is free, and so are your first jobs — we'll tell you clearly how many before you start. There is no commission on any booking, ever.

If you later take a paid plan, it runs monthly and you can cancel at any time and keep your free listing. We will not charge you for anything you have not agreed to in advance.

You can leave at any time. Reply STOP to any message and we'll stop contacting you; ask us and we'll remove your listing.

What we ask in return: keep your availability honest, turn up when you say you will, and hold the licences and insurance your trade requires. We may remove a listing where a business repeatedly fails to do these things, or misrepresents its qualifications.

How we order results

We rank by trade, by whether the business covers your postcode, and by whether they're actually available. Businesses on a paid plan appear higher, and we label them where they do. Paying us has no bearing on the quality of their work and we don't suggest otherwise.

Ema, the assistant

Ema is automated. She answers from information the listed business has provided and from their own website. She can be wrong, and she does not have authority to agree a price or commit a business to anything — only the business can do that. Treat what she tells you as a helpful indication, and confirm anything that matters directly.

Liability

We're responsible for running this service with reasonable care. We are not responsible for the work a business does, the price they charge, or their failure to turn up — those are between you and them.

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects a business on a paid plan, we'll give notice before it takes effect.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
